THE PRE-CONFERENCE THEORETICAL SECTION ON THURSDAY EVENING

This course will consist of 5 short presentations of differing points of view within the overall area of self psychology. The 5 different perspectives will demonstrate how self psychology has been evolving since Kohut’s work. The participants should become familiar with the different points of view which include: basic or traditional self psychology, intersubjectivity, optimal responsiveness, motivational theory, and developmental and systems approach in self psychology. This will prepare the participants for the case presentations the following day.

THE PRE-CONFERENCE MASTER CLASS ON FRIDAY MORNING

In this course there will be a case presentation and there will be representation of 5 different perspectives in self psychology. These include: the development of basic or traditional self psychology, intersubjectivity, motivational theory, optimal responsiveness, and developmental and systems theory. The course is designed to demonstrate how the different perspectives in self psychology would understand clinical material. The participants should learn how different approaches in self psychology would understand and interpret clinical material in self psychology so they can advance their own clinical skills.
