The National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP-New York City), its affiliate, the Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity (IPSS- New York City) and the Istituto per lo Studio Psicoanalitico della Soggettività (ISPS-Roma) are proud to announce their co-sponsorship of a European and American psychoanalytic conference to be held in Rome, Italy on March 25-27, 1999. The Conference meetings will be held at the centrally located Palazzo Barberini. Sweeping changes have been occurring in the theory and clinical practice of psychoanalysis. This Conference features three panels of distinguished psychoanalysts and researchers from Europe and the United States and Canada who will address three issues central to psychoanalysis, development, unconscious processes and therapeutic action. Each panel will consist of two papers, one by a European and one by an American, and two discussants, a European and American. Panel I will addresses Contemporary Psychoanalytic Developmental Models; Panel II considers the Clinical Implications of Contemporary Conceptualizations of Unconscious Processes; and Panel III focuses on Contemporary Perspectives on Therapeutic Action. Leading theoreticians, clinicians, and researchers have been invited to present their current thinking on these topics with special emphasis on clinical implications. The first two Panels will be followed by small discussion groups to maximize audience participation; and the third Panel will be followed by a full audience discussion. Three Original Paper/Workshop sessions are scheduled. For each session, five to six papers simultaneously presented in separate meeting rooms will enable participants to choose specific topics of interest. To create an ambience that naturally leads to international socializing, a Cocktail Reception will be held on Thursday evening at the Palazzo Barberini with an optional (free) visit of some rooms of the National Gallery of Ancient Art located in the Building. The Conference will close with a Dinner and Dance (optional) on Saturday evening at the Palazzo Barberini. We invite you to join us in what we believe will prove to be a professionally rewarding and socially memorable occasion.
